Seoul, Korea
May 6
Dear Georgia:
Your letter reached me yesterday telling me of your various April fools. They certainly were “April fools” for no one expects anything nice on the 1st of April.
My—how I wished I could have a ride with you over the pretty hills around Milton. Some day I expect to see carriages rolling over the streets of Seoul. There are a few but all private; none to rent. In Shanghai one can rent a carriage all afternoon for almost nothing. I remember running up the street one day to get a sight of a real horse and carriage. Then I just laughed to think of what people at home would think of running to have a glimpse of a horse & carriage.
These are busy days with us now—the home-stretch. We have our out-door sport on the 30 of June1—“Founder’s Day”—Then our Commencement the 17th of June.2 That is well on the way, though the “Returns” are not all in. I hope the Am. Minister Mr. Summons3 may consent to give us the main address. Bishop Harris4 will give the Baccalaureate for us. Etta Snay has sent me some music which came today for Commencement. By the way—Ella’s husband’s father has married Etta’s mother!—Tell Mother about it. Tell Mother too that I am so ashamed about that book I promised to send her. I went to the book case to look for it and it “was not”—I have a faint remembrance of some one borrowing it but who I do not know now. If it turns up it will go on its way rejoicing. The Editor who is spoken of in Homer’s book I sent (Mr. Bethell)5 was buried last Sunday—died of heart trouble—the whole hillside was covered with Koreans who felt he was their friend.
Mr. and Mrs. Swearer6 came last night. He has quite recovered his health & we are so glad to have them back. They will go to Kong Ju again. The work is so wonderful in the South—Where is it not? All over Korea our churches are filled. How we need workers. Can’t you and Homer bring Mother & come?

Give my love to Mother & to Homer
Yours with love—
